I am at present a Masters student in the field of AI. Coming from a philosophy background, my main interests are forecasting the impact of AI on society and ensuring it is harnessed most beneficially, whilst looking at how to mitigate any possible negative affects. To this end I am looking to know what the state of the art techniques and tools are in the industry and how they are being used, the reason being this allows me more insight into what they can be used for and how. In addition I would like to be involved in guiding the use of AI for good and this also requires a fairly good knowledge of technologies in order to be able to assess their application. From January onwards I will be working on a deep-learning project, the nature of which is as-yet undecided, though I hope it can be something with some positive and clearly-defined public purpose.
