Winning Open Source Software Prize interview of Justin Shenk by Osnabrueck University

I was interviewed by Osnabrueck University for winning the Open Source Software Sponsorship Prize for developing a computer vision emotion detection game "Party Pi". A desktop-based preview of the game is available at https://partytest2.herokuapp.com. The source code is http://github.com/justinshenk/party-pi. In the interview I discuss how I find OpenCV and other open source tools important for learning and collaborating with software projects.

Garbage sorting and separation

The research is focussed on coming up with an efficient garbage sorting and monitoring system. The system is set to perform several tasks as stipulated below. i. Sort the garbage in the dustbin into different categories; plastics, metals, paper bags etc. ii. Monitor the garbage level iii. Alert the necessary garbage collecting authorities whenever the dustbin is full iv. Keep a well-documented record of the garbage collection schedule

Image Recognition RaspPi Camera

This project involves using deep learning to recognize objects in smart home applications. The end goal is to use deep learning on the edge to detect parcels delivered to homes and detect suspicious activity in neighborhoods.

The new go-ncs package for using the Intel Movidius Neural Compute Stick from the Go programming language was featured in Golang Weekly, the largest Go programming email newsletter, sent to 22,233 recipients.
